This is a really wonderful restaurant and I go back every time I am in Amsterdam, sometimes twice! The restaurant itself is fairly small, and has recently undergone some redecoration. It now boasts a lovely shiny marble floor and light, contemporary wall decoration. All of the menu is fabulous, but in particular, the Butter Chicken is as good as the best I've ever had, and the naan bread is always just the way I like it i.e. lightly crisp and charred in bits and soft and cloud-like in others. The waiting staff are very courteous and efficient without being overly obtrusive. The restaurant ambiance is warm and quietly buzzy,i.e. small groups, really enjoying themselves.Patrons seem to vary wildly from students and elderly couples to American A-/B+ list celebrities (really, truely!!!) The cost of the meal always strikes me as being very reasonable, as we can be a bit greedy and tend to drink a fair amount of beer (we are on holiday!!) and the bill is usually around the 60 euros mark. In one way I am quite reluctant to post this review because I always want to be able to get a table at Shiva. At the moment this is usually possible if you don't mind a bit of a wait, or if you go early It would be best to make a reservation though.
