The Blauwe Brug restaurant / cafe is definitely what one would call "gezellig". It has cosy tables to sit at and watch people go by on the Waterlooplein or one can sit at the bar and chat with the friendly (and attractive) bar staff. It has a mixed clientele but its two staples are locals and the theatre-going crowd since the Opera House is just across the road and the Carre is just around the corner. I like to pop in there after Saturday food shopping for a few Heinekens. Their menu is very good and comprises something for everyone..steak, seafood, grills, salads, soups, pasta .....and their spare ribs are excellent. Everyone throws around the term "best ribs in wherever" so I'm not going to bother. I'll just say that they are excellent and slide off the bone. Finally the place is inexpensive. So there you have it....nice atmosphere, great staff, cool location, delicious food, all kinds of music on their sound system and it won't break the bank. Beat that!
