Cafe De Jaren
your comments review this restaurant
One of the biggest spaces in Amsterdam in one of the best locations, which is why they clearly couldn't care less if you enjoy your meal or not - there are plenty more where you came from! They have a lot of tourist visitors who couldn't be bothered to make a fuss, because a) they're on holiday and b) they won't be going there again in a hurry (which also probably explains why there are no reviews yet!)
When our exhausted-looking waitress eventually noticed we were actually there, I ordered a simple goats cheese roll and, well, that is exactly what I got. They had cut (or should I say 'hacked'?) a roll in half, tried to smear it with too-hard butter and then cut a whole circular pack (like you buy from the supermarket) of goats cheese in half and lumped it on the roll. No garnish, no finesse – I had to ask for a knife to try and convert my goatscheese patty into a format I could consume in public.
But yes, I suppose I did get exactly what I ordered, goats cheese and a roll (in that order) so. I shouldn't complain right?
I would recommend, however, that you not go to this café even if you are on holiday - pop into a supermarket (just ask where the nearest Albert Hein is) and get yourself some nice fresh ingredients, make your own lunch and go sit in the park or on a bench next to the canals. It's cheaper, quieter, quicker and nicer! I mean it. :-)
